Information
About Alarm/Range Validator

The Alarm/Range Validator analyzes analog channel configurations in L5X files, validating alarm settings, engineering ranges, and signal ranges according to industry best practices.

Key Validations
  • Alarm limit ordering and hierarchy
  • Engineering/signal range compatibility
  • Deadband configuration
  • Rate-of-change alarm settings
  • Signal-specific optimizations
Benefits
  • Identify alarm configuration issues
  • Get signal-specific recommendations
  • Improve alarm system reliability
  • Detect overlapping alarm conditions
  • Export validation reports
Validation Rules

The validator checks analog channels against configurable rules to ensure proper operation:

Analog Input Validation
  • Engineering range must encompass signal range
  • Alarm limits must be within engineering range
  • Alarm order must be correct (LL < L < H < HH)
  • Alarm deadband must be reasonable
  • Overlapping alarm detection
  • Rate-of-change alarm verification
Analog Output Validation
  • Engineering range must encompass signal range
  • Fault state configuration verification
  • Program control configuration
  • Startup behavior
  • Safety state verification
How to Use
  1. Select a L5X file containing analog module configurations.
  2. Choose a validation rule set or use the default rules.
  3. Click "Validate" to analyze your configuration.
  4. Review the validation results and recommendations.
  5. Export a report to share with your team.
